This tutorial will guide you to carry out basic configuration on WordPress. This is very important to do to maximize the potential of your WordPress. If you still don't have your own WordPress, you can follow the guide in the previous article.
Open the WordPress admin page, usually the admin page is at http://domainname/wp-admin/, then enter your username and password.
Go to Settings > General in the left sidebar. You will see the page as shown in the image.
Things to pay attention to on this page are:
Click the Save Changes button once everything is filled in correctly.
RSS feeds are often misused to steal articles that you have written. You can prevent this by opening Settings > Reading inleft sidebar. Change the "For each post in a feed, include" setting from Full text to Excerpt. Click the Save Changes button.
Go to Settings > Discussion in the left sidebar. Make sure the Comment must be manually approved setting is checked, then click the Save Changes button. This is done so that you can avoid people who spam the website via the comments column.
Go to Settings > Media in the left sidebar. Make sure the Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders setting is unchecked, then click the Save Changes button. This is done to minimize duplicates when uploading files, which causes your storage media to fill up quickly.
Permalinks are permanent URLs for your website posts and pages. In Settings > Permalink, make sure you select Post name for the Permalink structure setting. This will create a URL that is cleaner, easier to remember, and preferred by search engines like Google.
A WordPress theme is an important element in determining the look and feel of your website. Choosing and customizing the right theme will make your website attractive, responsive and functional according to your needs.
Go to Appearance > Themes in the left sidebar, then click the Add New Theme button in the top panel.
Once you find a theme that suits your website, click the Install button. Wait until the installation process is complete, then click the Activate button.
There is no reason for you to keep a theme that you don't use. A theme that is not used but is still installed will only burden your website. Server storage will be wasted because you store files that are not used. In addition, there is a risk of vulnerability in themes that are not properly maintained. Click Theme Details, then Remove.
Plugins
WordPress plugins are additional tools that can be installed to expand their functionality. Choosing the right plugin allows you to add various additional features without needing to write program code. With plugins, you can easily make adjustments and create a website according to your needs.
Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins in the left sidebar, then click the Add New Plugin button in the top panel.
Once you find a plugin that suits your website, click the Install Now button. Wait until the installation process is complete, then click the Activate button.
possibility that the hosting service provider you use has installed several plugins, for security or performance reasons. For the same reason as with themes, you don't need to keep plugins you don't use. Click Delete, then OK.
Basic Configuration is Complete
After you install themes and plugins for your website, it is possible that the theme or plugin you install will also create samples, in the form of posts, pages and images stored on your media. You can delete the sample, as you have done for previous themes and plugins.
Basic WordPress configuration is the first step so that your website can run well, and makes your website more secure. By following the guide above, you will have a strong foundation to develop your website further.
